FPS x PromptPay
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) launched FPS x PromptPay, i.e. a cross-border QR payment linkage between Hong Kong and Thailand, on 4 December 2023. It provides people travelling between Hong Kong and Thailand a fast, secure and easily accessible cross-border payment service.
Through the linkage, travellers from Hong Kong and Thailand are able to make retail payments by using their mobile payment applications to scan the Thai PromptPay QR Code to make payments to merchants in Thailand or Hong Kong FPS QR code to pay to merchants in Hong Kong respectively.

How to use
 | 1. | Enable the QR Code scanner of your mobile banking app or e-wallet. | |
 | 2. | Simply scan the PromptPay QR Code to pay a Thai merchant. See details in PromptPay QR code. | |
  | 3. | Verify the payment details including the merchant name, payment amount, exchange rate and the Hong Kong dollar equivalent amount before confirming the transaction. |
Notes:
- User authentication for mobile banking app or e-wallet is required.
- The QR Code scanning function provided by individual banks or e-wallets may vary. Please contact your bank or e-wallet operator for details.
Smart tips
| 1. | For static PromptPay QR code, user needs to enter the payment amount in Thai Baht. | |
| 2. | For dynamic PromptPay QR code, the payment amount in Thai Baht will be automatically filled in. | |
| 3. | The exchange rate quoted will be valid for a short period of time. If it expires, user needs to refresh or scan again the merchant's PromptPay QR code to obtain the latest exchange rate. | |
| 4. | Before confirming the transaction, user should verify all the payment details. Merchant name will be displayed in English, user may verify with the merchant if in doubt. |
